On a night when there is a lot of candy consumed (traditionally), it seems smart to incorporate a healthy snack into one's costume.
Another excellent idea I witnessed but didn't get a photo of was Sarah as a French woman with a fresh-looking baguette of bread at her side. Beyond the snacking possibilities, she got extra points for being one of the brave who carry props in hand as part of their costumes. It is a little inconvenient, and as such suggests a level of dedication to the look.
