Maundy, Maundy

Maundy Thursday matzoh

I attended a Maundy Thursday service last night. We observed communion using giant sheets of matzoh, but I broke off and ate only a small piece with my sip of wine/apple juice (I chose apple juice).

Dry and bland though it was, I just couldn't bear to throw away my uneaten polygon of matzoh square at the end of the service. I stuck the remainder in my bag and finished it at Peter's art opening.

Trickle-Down Cakenomics

Passobirthday Cake

Caitlin made a vegan chocolate cake for a Passover/birthday dinner on Monday evening. She brought some into the office yesterday and gave a leftover slice to Jeff. Apparently knowing how I feel about cake, Jeff offered half of his slice to me. It was delicious.

If you think you don't like vegan food, you should at least make an exception for vegan chocolate cake. I love vegan food, but I wager you won't be able to tell that most vegan chocolate cakes are vegan.

Now that I've used the word vegan so many times in a row, I'm exhausted.

Poetry Tuesday 4/14/09: The Do-Over.

Matzoh

[Due to a wilderness issue (as in, I was in a wilderness), this poem could not be posted on Tuesday (see these posts). All due apologies.]

Chocolate Caramel Matzoh Career Paths

Matzoh millionaire
No flat cracker tax!
Dipped twice in caramel gold
And chocolate's dark coins

Matzoh model
Wafer thin and brittle unclothed
Snaps less easily when dressed
In sweet, candied fashion

Matzoh Emcee
Jokes classically, if slightly stale
Thick, glossiest hair style
Unmoved by applause.

A Passover Snack

Matzoh

David shared a leftover treat at work. These are matzoh crackers covered in caramel and chocolate. I call it "Matzoh Brittle" and I recommend you make some.

UPDATE (April 17th): I know this should have been a poetry Tuesday post, and, as you will see if you read my latest (at the time I am writing this) post, I did write a poem on a plane to Arizona (or, as it turned out, Cincinnati) on Sunday that should have posted with this entry. I'll post the thing as soon as I can get my luggage unpacked. It's in there somewhere.

UDATE'S UPDATE: The poem can now be found here.
