Cadbury and Cadbury

I found a few chocolate items from Anastasia's UK Snack Sampler rattling around in the back of the refrigerator (placed there on a very hot day because I was afraid they were melting at room temperature), so Dan and I tried them on our way home from Cold Spring on the train this weekend. Any blur in these photos is actually moving-train atmosphere, not blur. Got that?

Cadbury Flake bills itself as "The Crumbliest, Flakiest Milk Chocolate." That's accurate; it's not the least messy snack on a train. Inside the wrapper is a twig-like stick of chocolate. It looks like it is layers of chocolate folded back on itself, whorled almost like wood. This is milk chocolate throughout. There's nothing in the middle but more chocolate. No "center," no "crunchies," no nuts. It tastes a bit like Easter chocolate melted down and re-cast.

Flake wasn't bad at all, but I enjoyed the Cadbury Fudge more. When I broke the bar in half it bent before breaking, rather than snapping. "Feels fudgey," I decided. Inside is a sweet, dense, lighter colored fudge filling. Dan identified the flavor as similar to Rolos. There's a caramel "thing" going on there, though the texture is more like fudge than chewy or sticky caramel. I just ate 4-5 pieces of homemade peanut butter chocolate double-decker fudge a few nights ago, so I know fudge. This bar isn't quite being straight with me - it's more like an imitation of fudge, but it's pretty tasty for a candy bar.
